ActionAid is located in the regions of the world where poverty is greatest. We work with both emergency measures and long-term support and are stationed for 10 years in each area – a prerequisite for creating lasting sustainable change. Together with our 2,000 partners, we reach out to approximately 27 million people every year.
ActionAid is a global organization located in 48 countries that works to reduce poverty and for sustainable global development. We believe that all people, under the right conditions and with the right support, have the ability to change their lives for the better. That is why we always work together with the people in the countries where we operate and let their needs guide our joint work. We are locally anchored in each country and the staff comes from the country and the area in which we work.
In all projects, ActionAid has a special focus on women and girls, as gender equality leads to long-term sustainable development that creates better conditions for all. Local needs are the starting point for all our work, but we also know that laws, rules and actions at national and international levels affect the conditions for being able to bring about change. Therefore, advocacy and campaign work are also an important part of our work. We do this at a local, national and international level.
ActionAid is now receiving support from H.M. Queen Silvia’s Foundation CATCH to implement a project aimed at providing psychosocial support to children and young adults living in and around the Zarqaa refugee camp in Jordan. In ActionAid’s Youth Centers, children have access to the support of specially trained young leaders as well as the opportunity to play, read and write. This is a way to maintain previous school knowledge and motivate for future knowledge learning, combined with time spent in a safe place.
The overall goal of the project is to increase the psychosocial well-being of the children and ensure that they and their parents are well equipped for the future. The project also aims to increase the cohesion between people with different backgrounds and to create social security in and around the refugee camps. As the work is led by young adults, the development of young people’s leadership skills and the promotion of their participation in democratic development is another important aspect. At ActionAid Youth Center, young adults gain knowledge and experience, but also work experience, which becomes a great basis in their work to shape their future with a positive spirit.
